2009 Grant Recipients

Three local organizations – the Carlisle Area Historical Society, the Carlisle Public Library and Lynn Memorial Park Restoration Committee, were awarded grants on Tuesday, May 5, by the Greater Carlisle Community Foundation. The grants were presented by Cindy Rockwell, chairperson of the Foundation, and Melinda Huisinga, chairperson of the Grantmaking Committee.   

The Carlisle Area Historical Society received a check in the amount of $500.00 toward the purchase of a security system and smoke detectors in the Randleman House. The Carlisle Public Library accepted a $400.00 check to purchase books as incentive awards for the Summer Reading Program. The Lynn Memorial Park Restoration Committee was awarded $600.00 to be used toward the purchase of new playground equipment for the city park. The Foundation is pleased to be able to help these organizations.   
 
The Greater Carlisle Community Foundation was founded in 2005 for the purpose of providing philanthropic support for community betterment projects in the greater Carlisle area, including the communities of Palmyra, Easter Lake, Avon, Carlisle and Hartford. The foundation’s areas of interest emphasize arts and culture, humanities, environment, animals, health, education, human services, public and society benefit.
 
Including the $1,500.00 awarded this spring, over $6,000.00 has been given to local non-profit organizations during the past four years. As the endowment fund continues to grow through interest earnings and additional contributions from individuals and businesses in our community, the Foundation will be able to assist more organizations achieve their project goals in the future.
 
The next grant cycle for the Greater Carlisle Community Foundation will be held in Spring 2010; applications will be available in January.
